Locating the Right Surfing Clothes
By Jearsey Maxx | June 12, 2011
Surfing has grown from an obscure sport with a fanatical cult-like following, to a multi-million dollar industry in just a few short decades. Why is this? Because the culture itself is so much fun and exciting to be a part of! This unique culture also translates well into a fashion statement. Make your first statement with the clean and bold lines of a pair of board shorts. These shorts sport a long and lean look, and a sense of ruggedness and durability. These are made for wear and tear, and not for just sitting pretty in. The colors tend to be bold yet plain, and the occasional pattern and prints tend toward the understatement. Still, they are very comfortable, and more so with new designs for an older aged individual. These are a must have in any coastal collection.
If one must acquiesce to a shirt on top of those nice looking shorts, then scrounge up an old favorite tee shirt and the look is complete. Any tee shirt will do, and it will not even be too necessary to match your patterns and colors. For the surfing set, shirts are quite expendable, and are valued for that simple fact. They are cheap and easy to find are frequently given away at favorite watering holes, wash and wear almost anywhere, and forgive a multitude of staining sins. The come on and off in seconds, and don't mind too much being left balled up in the sand. These shirts work. When it comes to footwear, why even bother? When the primary goal is another glassy set, why bother covering up you feet at all? Regular shoes are no good for running on the sand, and are useless in the water. If you must don a pair for the next beer run, then a decent pair of sandals is the only way to go. Sandals are a lot like tee shirts, easy to get on and off, easy to stash out of the way, and perfect for their function: a quick concession to propriety when necessary.
For dressing up, which is not high on most surfers to do list, there is always the Hawaiian or cabana style shirt. These are usually worn larger and looser than the tee, and boast loud floral patterns as well as subtle tropical themes.
